What we do: Within the Consortium boundaries there are 58 nationally important wildlife sites
(Sites of Special Scientific Interest) some of which are also internationally important and a network of county
wildlife sites. For these nationally important wildlife sites that have been impacted on by land drainage, a
series of water level management plans have been produced and the Boards are working to address the issues raised
in these plans.
As part of our day-to-day operational role, the Consortium has agreed Standard Maintenance Operations which have put in place policies to ensure the Boards can carry out their land drainage functions, whilst having regard to nature conservation. In the last few years the Board has been particularly active in managing the environment alongside its land drainage operations, and has also invested heavily in major conservation schemes throughout Norfolk with other interested partners.
